belgian made nipple stickers

my mate pieter jansen (better known as parra) seems to be getting a lot of attention at the moment… and rightly so, he’s a very talented bloke…

i just got hold of a copy of a ltd. edition pack of stickers he’s made, great stuff, he does quite a bit of commercial work these days but i still think he’s at his best when left to his own (devious) devices

let’s hope he becomes a jet-set superstar soon and then maybe this canvas (below) which i bought from him a few years ago will become very valuable… nice one mate!

helvetica extended

i got hold of a copy of the ‘helvetica movie’ dvd last week and i’ve been watching some of the ‘extras’ featuring interviews with a lot of the big name designers who took part, some of them are worth a look and it’s of particular interest to note which people are only interested in talking about the mechanics of being a designer compared to people like massimo vignelli who always sees the cultural implications of his work in a broader context and seems like a good bloke to me

one of the big names who i really miss in the film (sadly) is ‘tibor kalman’, he would have probably made a great contribution on this particular subject….

white christmas

the ‘vpro gids’ (dutch TV listings magazine) has a novel thermal ink idea on the cover this week, this ink works the opposite to my business cards (which turns white when heated) this one turns dark when placed in the fridge, i just tried it and it works fairly well… the illustration was made by the very talented ‘raoul deleo’ whoze work you can see over at artbox

all i want for christmas

I don’t own a car and find people who are interested in (and talk about them all the time) generally quite boring…however, if you are wondering what to buy me for christmas, here are two tips: a mid to late 1950’s land rover MK1 (with the headlights in the middle) or a late 1960’s triumph vitesse MK2 covertible, red or british racing green will do fine thanks…

why is the week before christmas always so hysterical?

busy week, finishing the first stage of one of the corporate identity projects i’m working on, still shooting the second one, the book i made last week is going to press this week and i had a shoot for the national ballet this afternoon, with ingrid baars (first time together) a relatively relaxed and quick shoot, because ingrid will really only make the image when she gets behind her computer, the image will be a multiple comp using lots of the detail shots we made today… the dancer we used: igone de jongh, was very professional and she lookd great as always, she’s very photogenic…

also i got a phonecall today from a new client who will be comissioning me for a very exciting new project in the new year, it’s one of those jobs i’ve always wanted to do… great stuff! more news as soon as it’s official… i’m already looking forward to 2008
