this jpg doesn’t really do it justice, but the portrait of ‘first lady’ michelle obama made by annie leibowitz for vogue is fabulous, if you ask me

i came across this amazing, obsessive work in a magazine today and it appealed to the collector-nerd in me, it turns out that the man responsible for these fascinating catalogued lists of objects drafted in a semi cartoon/semi techinical drawing style (gregory blackstock) is autistic and made a name for himself a few years back in america

to find out more about him just google his name, there’s plenty of stuff to read… here’s a short video on the ‘rainman of seattle’, sure part of the attraction is his condition, but luckily the work appealed to me on it’s own merit before i even knew about the background story…

he has even made some prints on clothes for ‘commes des garcons’ which i find a very odd (but appealing) combination

great album cover for extrawelt’s ‘schöne neue’ album (the music is worth a listen too if you like techno) design by german agency
weissraum

the image reminded me of the work of ‘karl blossfeldt’ (1865-1932) which it clearly refers to, except the ‘leaf’ shown here is a blown-out truck tyre… great stuff, the photo is by ‘christopher griffith’ i’m going to have a look around to see more of his work…

photographer lukas göbel has just completed a very special series of five portraits of successful dutch entrepreneurs…

he chose to shoot them in typical dutch landscapes, in a very non portrait-like manner, from a distance (the close-up images shown are enlarged details from the whole panoramas) i think they are great… very unusual

the ‘suikerdepot’ identity is finally ready and going to print this week… (see ‘me work’ for the custom font, me studio produced for them) looking forward to seeing this one… it will be ready before the end of the year hopefully
