two frames that made the final edit

One of photography’s greatest strengths is the mystery of what is happening just out of the frame, and the moments in time either side of when the shutter is pressed.

Today thousands of digital frames languish on computers never to be seen but in the days of film, a contact sheet showing all the frames on a roll of film was the first stage from camera to publication.

interesting BBC article about robert frank’s seminal work ‘the americans’

this fabulous book is the culmination of a project by graphic design collective isme, who travelled around the balkan in 2008, more info here

their approach reminds me of berlin-based collective
anschlaege, who i met in berlin back in 2005 and subsequently invited talk about their work here in amsterdam at ‘mind the gap’

belgian designer ‘hugo puttaert and i were in the dutch theater poster awards jury together last year and he mailed me yesterday that he has launched a new website have a look here

dutch design darling ‘wim crouwel’ once said that clients often employ pitches to disguise their own lack of vision (i.e. if you’re not sure what you want get lots of designers to have a shot and hope something you like turns up by chance) this is something i recently experienced myself with a client and hugo obviously has had a similar experience, you can read his article on ‘those fucking pitches’ here
