how to make money

this is a really interesting project for a euro coin i just stumbled upon by chance from designer ‘stani michiels’ (a new name to me) a large part of the text on his blog is devoted to explaining how it was all done using open source free software, which is probably very interesting if you are an ‘open source geek’

but i found the rationale for the design and the explanation of the process more interesting, personally… the result looks really nice, especially the reverse side with the book ‘skyline’, the link features large scale blow-ups of the actual scanned coin, which are worth a look… the whole article can be read in dutch or english (now that’s service…)

false alarm

if you want to know what people are saying about you without having to google yourself all the time, the answer is of course google alerts which sends you a mail every time your name is mentioned (don’t worry you won’t get too many alerts… unless you’re really famous)

a mistaken one i received today made me smile: the (incorrectly hyphenated) dutch word for ‘recording studio’ = opnamestudio

finesse

i just had a look around at the graphic thought facility and it was worth the visit, very nice indeed…

several updates have been added since my last visit, they have a really well balanced mix of projects going on

ten thousand hours

…short-circuiting the process rarely works. Those 10,000 hours have to happen and are embedded in the foundations of most of the best designer?s careers.

nice article by michael johnson on his blog this week

bas oudt

earlier on this year i met up with ‘ron faas’ from ‘dietwee’ who mentioned a book which is currently beind made about former graphic designer and rietveld teacher ‘bas oudt’, i say ‘former’ as bas has apparently had to cut his career short due to a serious eye disease…

many former students and employees are involved in the making of the book, which is due sometime soon…

by chance, i found some more info on the website of designer (& contributor to the project) harmen liemburg i also borrowed these images from him, looks interesting… actually while you are there have a look at harmen’s work too, great stuff…
