i came across these flags for the annual ‘holland festival’ in town today, they were pretty impossible to photograph decently (as you can see) but i thought they were worth a mention, nice ‘cut and paste’ look

we spent the whole day, yesterday, sifting through an enormous pile of entries for the ‘dutch design awards’ and making the first rough selection (in or out), it was a much more rewarding experience than last year and we actually even had a good day, the judging process (and heated discussions) went very smoothly and we have made a good selection so far (in my opinion), next month round two…

two interesting links for friday courtesy of my mate ‘thijs’ at kennisland:

the amsterdam university library has an online database of seventeenth century book illustrations and engravings that is open to the public, featuring some of the key artists of the time

they can all be examined in great detail using the ‘zoom’ tool (the shift and command keys worked fine for me) the text is dutch only…

and secondly an interesting photo project on flickr

Our project is a true portrait of Britain created by photographing 1,000 people. We stopped everyone who crossed our path on the streets of London, excluding nobody, asking the same question more than fifteen hundred times. In a moment where recession is the main subject of every discussion, it was striking to come across such positive attitude. This is the true face of Britain.

the ‘museum of the city of new york’ (wow that’s a big name) are organising a show of dutch photography, featuring ‘rineke dijkstra’, ‘hendrik kerstens’ and well… lots of other names too, see the full list here (image by hendrik kerstens)

i will be working on new images for the coming season of the ‘dutch national ballet’ in the near future, starting next week with the very talented wendelien daan, looking forward to that very much…
