all my troubles seemed so far away….

dylan and i finally completed the CD jewel case type project yesterday in the hague, in all it took us two weeks to make the installation and record it, we made a series of pictures, followed the whole process using a CCTV camera hung in the daylight studio and we shot a stop motion series at the end while we dismantled the piece…. more news soon

i say we are finished… but actually we need to make the films and edit the whole thing so it may be a while yet…

monospacing

in the hague, yesterday we continued the CD box project, it’s coming along nicely… at some point during the day we encountered a problem when the supply of pixels ran out, which forced us to redesign the font (making it narrower) thereby giving us a new set of boxes (pixels) to complete the rest…

two teachers from the school ‘gert dumbar’ and visiting-lecturer ‘reza abedini’ popped by to see what all the fuss was about, during the afternoon, and gave us some approving nods… we are going to shoot the final piece later this week and try to make a small stop motion film, and if there’s time, complete the whole alphabet…

building blocks

i spent the day in the hague at the art academy with dylan yesterday, working on our CD case typo project (see earlier post this week) we got the CCTV installation in the building to record our endeavours during the day, it’s coming along nicely although we still aren’t entirely sure what it’s going to be… which is part of the fun, after all… why experiment if you know what is going to happen?

…all my troubles seemed so far away

last year i transferred my whole (rather large) CD collection into folders and ditched the plastic jewel cases (about 2500 or so), however it seemed a shame to just throw them out so i held onto them, hoping to find time to make them into a large pixel font, as a kind of ode to the end of the ‘physical era’ in music…

my old intern dylan is currently working on a school project about waste plastic and we have decided to combine our ideas into one project involving some very large plastic letters… we started construction on the installation today in the daylight studio at the art academy in the hague, more news on this one soon…
