gambling can be a dangerous hobby (new project)

some time ago, my wife femke and i had a bet about something very trivial… in fact it was so trivial that we can’t remember what it was exactly… what matters is that she decided that the winner of the bet was allowed to design a ‘silly hat’ for the loser, which had to be worn for a whole day, i agreed and… she lost the bet

we have spent the spare hours during past week designing and building this ridiculous construction, which was delivered to femke’s office at 9a.m. today and duly worn around the office… the hat had a special photo box with a disposable camera to record the day’s events, i will be getting the camera back soon hopefully

many thanks to my intern ‘uwe’ who worked on this final project (he leaves tomorrow) with much enthusiasm and pleasure, the pink shades were his idea and all credits to ‘femke’ for actually keeping her word and wearing it… more news when i get the pictures back

ghostly international

some very ethereal album covers for quality techno label ‘ghostly’ from designer michael cina although the styles are very diverse it reminds me as a body of work very strongly of vaughn oliver’s work for indie label ‘4AD’

there is also an interview with him here

graphic design, politics and society

This remarkable volume is a collection of eleven essays and shorter articles which for the first time provide rich contexts ? social, cultural, and political ? for graphic design in Britain. Reaching from the Second World War to the early 1970s, they fizz with provocative interconnections: between print culture, photojournalism and publishing, the London of émigrés, political meetings and demonstrations, cultural cafés and art schools.

this soon-to-be-released new title from specialist UK publisher ‘hyphen press’ sounds very interesting…
