hold up

Support Structures is a manual for what bears, sustains, props, and holds up. It is a manual for those things that encourage, give comfort, approval, and solace; that care for and provide consolation and the necessities of life. It is a manual for that which assists corroborates, advocates, articulates, substantiates, champions, and endorses; for what stands behind, underpins, frames, presents, maintains, and strengthens. Support Structures is a manual for those things that give, in short, support. While the work of supporting might traditionally appear as subsequent, unessential, and lacking value in itself, this manual is an attempt to restore attention to one of the neglected, yet crucial modes through which we apprehend and shape the world.

interesting book project, take a narrow subject and expand on it in all sorts of directions, nice… (thanks to photographer ‘paul d scott’ for the tip)

disco culture – you look like you don’t need money

that makes five own ‘new work’ posts today, a record… this is a sneak preview of a book i’ve just completed for performance artist, VJ, photographer and friend martin de waal who is difficult to sum up in a few words, the book will probably do a better job than i can here…

the book was designed and completed in record time during the past few days, is now currently in production and will launch at the end of next week at the ‘sugar factory’ the nightclub that houses the ‘discocult’ evenings for which martin shot the flyer images over the past few years… the book features a large number of images made about, for and together with martin himself… the project was realised on a shoestring budget and i took part for free because the subject matter caught my interest and also because martin is a very talented, inspiring and unusual client for me as a designer…

‘you look like you don’t need money’ will be available from december the 5th, starting with a late night book launch at the ‘sugar’… see you there, and no… the irony of the title didn’t pass me by martin…

strong advice in a digital age

interesting blog post entry about photographers, their physical portfolios and presentations, from freelance art buyer heather morton i agree too, i guess: if i can see your entire portfolio online in 3 minutes then your book needs to be the very best highlights

(via a ‘linkedin’ entry this afternoon)

1 studio, 13 dancers

and 946 unedited photos

i found this an interesting motion experiment by photographer ‘adrian weinbrecht’, something which is becoming very easy and accessible with the new generation of digital cameras that can film and shoot stills in almost seamless quality…
