murals and hand drawn typographic compositions form UK artist/typographer liz collini, drawn for example painstakingly in chalk and then when finished, erased…

I make different forms of texts using simple but often ambiguous words and phrases, mostly through printmaking and drawing. There are gaps and overlaps between reading and viewing, text and image, the hand and the machine. I try to create breathing spaces in which we can pause and look back at language. Whole narratives can be compressed into a single word or familiar phrase. The drawings’ resemblance to plans and blueprints reflects the strange provisionality of language; the things about which we write are always elsewhere.

target practice

When I decided I wanted to make art using a gun, I was not sure what direction I would have to take. I knew I did not want to use it simply as an accent to work I was doing, but as the focus. My main goal was to take the destructive power away from the gun. To manipulate the gun into a tool of creation and use it in a way that removed it from its original purpose, to deweaponize it.

most of us are pretty familiar with the work of ‘piet zwart’ i guess, but this flyer design for ‘bruynzeel’ dated 1929 was new to me and seems incredibly contemporary with the colour gradient, see a small slideshow containing this and some of his more familiar work here on design observer
