i am ready to be overtaken

some more fuel for my ‘highway code books’ obsession (see ‘me stuff’) by sheer chance i came across another designer who owns the 1954 version, some high quality scans have been posted here

this one compares nicely with the other two and again shows a clear progression in graphic styles and typography, the shaded diagrams in this one are beautiful…

one book, many readings

the editor of ‘things magazine’ puts his point very succinctly and i do get it… but i must confess to being totally seduced by the depth and beauty of this online analysis of eighties ‘multi-plot’ novels entitled cyoa, take some time and have a look and read of this, it’s stunning… especially in the light of the new e-reader and ‘ipad’ hype…

many thanks to ‘things’ for pointing me towards this in the first place… this is what they have to say:

It’s beautiful and fascinating. Yet content is practically overwhelmed by presentation. The contemporary digital toolset rips the books into their constituent pieces, making kinetic art out of what would once have been created with a set of index cards and an eraser. The site cross-pollinates modern obsessions – retro style and gaming and infographics – to create a dataset that is ultimately more than the sum of its parts, reflecting not so much our interest in the original books but in their role as a source of data.

fashion-ish, humanless…

…and commission are several of the unusual categories on the website of photographer olivia bee, comission is unusual in particular because olivia is merely fifteen years old and already has an impressive portfolio of work

the main charm for me is that it is literally the world seen through the eyes of a young teenager
(thanks to ‘pepijn’ for the tip)

‘ruud baan’ and i met the participants in our PANL masterclass again today, the ideas are almost ready and the only big hiccup is that we are having trouble finding the footballers we need, ok so that’s definitely a hiccup you can’t ignore… still there’s a month to go yet and the process is just as important as the end result to me…
