google earth has started adding historical imagery to the app, using the new clock symbol you can go back in time

like for example these images of warsaw (plus some of stuttgart, lyon and naples) which show (with before, during & after images) the devastating effects of aerial bombings during the second world war

some cool magazine spreads from an old issue of ‘bazaar’ magazine by guy bourdin (via the ‘warymeyers’ blog)

fascinating image by photographer anouk kruithof that is up for grabs as part of the photo auction for haiti
i came across this word whilst re-reading an old novel recently and it’s definitely my most favourite word of the moment and also recognisable to me as a designer, it’s a little known german word [u”>schlimmbesserung[/b][/u]
defined as follows:
an intended improvement that has the opposite effect (the adjective schlimm can mean anything from "bad" to "malicious"; the noun Besserung means "improvement" – literally "betterment")
or put differently fucking something up that was fine by trying to improve it… as brian eno said: ‘the real art is knowing when to stop’ or something to that effect…nice
