the earliest and the best

the city archives (next door to my office) were busy putting up some advertising hoardings this morning, for their latest expo: ‘amsterdam’s earliest photographs 1845-1875‘ which is due to open soon… there will also be a parallel expo during the show with the best pictures from our ‘amsterdamse dingen’ book which i designed, the opening is on april the 2nd, with our very first english language version (amsterdam things) especially for the tourists… should be arriving back from the printers soon…

…the piece uses a particle system generated off a voxelised version of their logo (the only thing I preserved from the original), rendered as 250,000 cubes and affected by various swarming modifiers, and then using a crafty ambient occlusion / radiosity tracer using raycasts through a voxel set version of the particle system. Insert the usual lighting + shadows, cameras, fine selected colours (not dutch!) and post processing effects here…

i’ll just translate that for anyone else who, like me, doesn’t speak martian: we’ve got some groovy new software on our computer and we made this logo explode in slow motion in a very interesting manner, nice eh?… err yes

first me, then my father-in-law and now my good friend ian leaving the house with a blue plastic bag… google street view is slowly building a ‘gaussian blur portrait’ databaase of everyone i know… there’s no escape…
