it’s been a bit more relaxed in the studio this week, so i finally got round to using the ‘downtime’ (they should really call it ‘up time’ i guess) for making a personal project involving many rolls of kite string, thousands of steel pins and lots of patience… more news soon, it will be published as a spread in a new one-off magazine due to launch in early may… as i heard ‘rené knip’ say during a lecture yesterday ‘it’s the process that is becoming more important and not necessarily the end result’ i agree completely, these kinds of personal projects are becoming more and more an essential component of the way i work and want to/need to work…

all of the finalists and winners of the 2009 dda awards (including my work for the ‘suikerdepot’) are currently on display in essen, germany at the ‘red dot’ headquarters, the dda office sent me some images of the show, here’s a brief impression…

the belgian artist ‘wim delvoye’ has a taste for controversy like as his notorious ‘tattooed pigs’ and such like work, however this series of sex ray images is quite old but i hadn’t seen them before… they reduce sexual acts to something much more anatomical and clinical, but i find them funny
