i spent the afternoon in a photo studio with erwin olaf, hans van manen and ted brandsen for the dutch national ballet making a picture for the latest production: ‘the hans van manen festival’ it involves two dancers with a video projection of hans van manen on a naked male torso

my idea was to make an ode to hans van manen’s famous ballet ‘live’ with video projections, there were two sets and two dancers with hans van manen appearing in the picture but also doing the choreography and being shot on video to comp in later for the video effect, it’s a complicated production but as usual erwin had everything organised down to the very last detail… it looked great so far… i’ll post the final result when its ready (late june)

this is the ‘asahi beer’ building in the asakusa district of tokyo where we stayed for a few days… I had already seen it in books but it was still impressive to see for real, it is a very bold and still surprising piece of design (by philip starck) intended to work as a corporate statement for the beer company, officially called the golden flame I’m sure the locals in tokyo have some much better names for it…

if you look at the trucks on the motorway in the lower picture it should give you some idea of the scale (it’s enormous)
