interesting article talking about the comparisons between apple and braun industrial design from the early 70’s, it’s not really a new story but the comparisons are very striking and this article has images of some of the great products designed by dieter rams, who was way ahead of his time…

beautifully executed animation … shame about the dreadful, corny, product thingy tacked onto the end, what a waste ending such a well made piece of work with a thoughtless and unnecessary pack-shot scene…

i once heard ‘peter saville’ confessing that one of his first jobs as a student in the early 70’s on work placement at a design studio was to apply the type (using letraset by hand of course) to the new record cover for mike oldfield’s ‘tubular bells’ which had just been made… he remembered having made a really bad job of the type, i just had a look and indeed… he did… fortunately the image was strong enough to disguise his ‘botch job’
the image is one of the first examples of ‘new age’ imagery i can think of, before the term ‘new age’ even exsisted…
