het parool ‘ps’ supplement

i was just visiting the site of my friend and image-maker andré thijssen who nevers ceases to amaze me with his ‘lateral’ imagery, i came across these covers for the ‘PS’ (suplement to the dutch national paper ‘het parool’) this series dates back to the very beginning (late 90’s somewhere) and if i’m not mistaken were art directed by kessels kramer, it’s interesting to see how strong the covers where back then, the newspaper has since restyled into a very bland ‘normal newspaper’ look…

p.s. andré, is that your own snotty nose? it looks like you!

iron fists

interesting new book by steven heller due to be published soon: Iron Fists ‘Branding the 20th-Century Totalarian State’ a small quote taken from amazon:

It was just over 60 years ago that Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, two of the world’s most powerfully imposing leaders, died and their regimes crumbled. One of the most illuminating facts about this dark era of history is the way in which these tyrants, and others like them, used graphic design as an instrument of power. But how did these regimes succeed in influencing the minds of millions? It is in the visual language the imagery, the typeface, the color palette that the answers truly take shape.
