last friday, photojournalist ‘pim milo’ came round to discuss an article on image manipulation he’s writing, we talked about the fabulous image shown above of ‘salvador dali’ called ‘dali atomicus’ (which took 28 takes to make & involved no retouching) whilst looking around i came across some of the ‘making of’ plus ‘out-takes’ and other images by photographer ‘philppe halsman’ who made several surreal pictures with ‘dali’ like the one with sheep hanging from trees… enjoy, i did…

From a book you can get a cohesive design history; from the Web, never. But there is no turning back. While books and journals will continue to be important repositories, appreciated for their credibility, capacity and user experience, the Web will increase in volume and in usage.
interesting article in the forthcoming eye
i visited several exhibitions at the ‘stedelijk museum’ this afternoon, including the ‘best book design’ show, as usual the work of ‘irma boom’ really stands out when it comes to book design…

i must admit that quite a few of the winning titles seemed more ‘well produced’ than really special as design pieces, to me at least…

the jury often seems to be very conventional in it’s choices, some of the lower images shown here are from different exhibitions such as the ‘deep space’ one (also worth a visit)
