comic sans

one of the small projects going through the studio in the coming months is a small corporate identity for an investment firm, that will be built up using small parts of non-existent graphic novels, which i’m going to illustrate (this idea relates to the name of the firm) i will be getting my style inspiration from two of the great names in comics ‘hergĂ©’ (tintin) and ‘chris ware’ (creator of the fabulous ‘acme novelty library’) i might even get the chance to use everybody’s favourite worst typeface: comic sans… at last

more news on this project soon…

illegal photography…

… during the german occpation including images by well-known dutch photographer ‘cas oorthuys’

many of the images aren’t particularily interesting without the context, but still worth a look..

the old and new

i usually don’t feature furniture design on this blog, but the work of sebastian brajkovic is worth a mention particularily because it ‘combines highly contemporary computer technology with specialised craftsmanship and traditional techniques’ as they pointed out on design.nl

design with a sense of…

american designer ‘nancy wu’ has some very nice design work, her disposable soap rings, chairs and cell phones are also definitely worth a look (see the heading ‘substance’)

it’s elementary my dear watson…

the ‘sherlock holmes of dutch design’ martijn d. oostra mailed me the following image pointing out the striking similarities between a cover of ‘blvd’ magazine (now defunct) dating from 1998 featuring the ‘atomic bomb’ couture collection by ‘viktor & rolf’ and the image on the new ‘items’ magazine cover, recently restyled by ‘dutch design’ darlings: thonik

as some people pointed out, it’s difficult to judge a restyle based on one issue but the new ‘items’ is ever-so-slightly disappointing, if you ask me…
