swollen appendix

i am currently reading several books at the same time (like my design projects, i tend to do lots at the same time, all in different stages and varying kinds) these two books are entertaining me right now: ‘the philosophy of andy warhol’ which is full of incoherent ramblings and sometimes fascinating observations:

"Before i was shot, I always thought that i was more half-there than all-there, I always suspected that the way things happen in the movies is unreal, but actually it’s the way things happen to you in real life that’s unreal. The movies make emotions look so so strong and real, whereas when things really happen to you, it’s like watching television-you don’t feel eanything"

the second one is brian eno’s personal diary from 1995 called ‘a year with swollen appendices’ which i’ve actually read several times, very inspiring (although this quote maybe isn’t really):

"Going home i saw a newly married couple being photographed leaving the Essex House (at 11.15). I managed to get in the picture"

karsh

many thanks to my misses (femke) for pointing this website out, the fabulous work of yousuf karsh as stated on wikipedia: "Of the 100 most notable people of the century, named by the International Who?s Who, Karsh had photographed 51." and most of them have since become really iconic portraits of the people in question…

8-bit waterslide

this little animation is one of the entries for a ‘crowdsource’ project for UK credit card company ‘barclaycard’, nice idea but shame it’s for such a dubious product…

dark night of the soul

this interesting new music project ‘dnots’ from highly talented producer danger mouse (gnarls barkley) and mark linkous (spraklehorse) features guest appearances from ‘the strokes’, ‘iggy pop’, ‘suzanne vega’ and ‘frank black to name a few, the accompanying book has artwork by ‘david lynch’ and will be sold with an empty CD-R as a result of a legal battle with record label EMI…

the music may never be released and the blank CD-R is a protest action by danger mouse against the legal wrangle… fortunately you can here the whole thing as an online stream sounds great, i hope it gets released at some point soon… if anyone has a good quality rip i’d be interested to hear from you…
