two new posters for the dutch national ’12-’13 campaign arrived back from the printers this week…

and the following one (below) is heading off in the other direction: to the printers today

congratulations to the winners of the dutch silver camera awards 2011, it must have been a tough job judging all of this: although the ‘national portrait’ category winner ‘annaleen louwes’ delivered a beautiful prize image ‘dees’; i must say that the striking image ‘jof’ (see above) by talented dutch duo blommers&schumm would have got my winning vote

i posted about taylor holland a while back and he got in touch again this week to mention a new project of his: a wonderful collection of detail images from those really kitsch european touring buses

i have often been fascinated by these as we have a lot of them in amsterdam as well, it’s amazing to think that someone actually ‘designs’ these… thanks for sharing taylor, he has also released a book of the ‘eurobus’ project via matmos press

together with several other local creatives, i will shortly be providing imagery for a new monthly visual column for the amsterdam ad blog called simply inspiration

the other contributors are : ‘jennette snape’ founder of dolly rogers, art director jarr geerligs, ‘joep beving’ from massive music, designer rick de zwart, david snellenberg creative/partner at dawn, 328 stories director ‘johan kramer’, ‘reuben alexander’ founder of buutvrij and last but not least talented art director christian borstlap

our collective creative brief is simple and open: ‘make it related to amsterdam somehow’ more news soon…

i came across this classic beer campaign last week whilst working on a job, i don’t post much advertising work on this blog but the ‘miller high life’ from the mid 90′s remains one of the best in its sort, see the whole beautifully written/directed & executed series by director ‘errol morris’ here

we spent last friday in a dance studio with mister ‘ruud baan’ shooting the first of the new poster image series for the dutch national ballet (season 12-13)

many thanks to everyone who helped to make it a successful day, including firstly ruud of course but also the dancers (‘anna tsygankova’ from russia, ‘james stout’ from canada, ‘anatole babenko’ from russia, ‘sebastien galtier’ from france and ‘jared wright’ from australia) and my clients ‘ted and sandra’ who all worked very hard to make the image we wanted…

it was quite an unusual idea this one and i’ll post some more image as soon as we have sorted it all out, should be great when finished i think

Two months later Kurt died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. This photograph became the memorial RS cover…

i’m currently reading the hilarious account of his years as ‘gonzo reporter’ for rolling stone magazine so have a personal interest in these images by the fabulous hunter thompson taken during his somewhat risky period spent living amongst some of californias’ most violent hells angels in the 60′s… the blackeye shown above was a ‘leaving present’

i also love the ‘edgar hoover’ target in his own backyard, if you haven’t read the ‘angels’ book i urge you to do so… thrilling stuff, in fact read all of his books

we have just completed a new poster for an exhibition of 50 years ‘dutch national ballet posters’ which opens on the 29th of january (till late apri) at the dutch poster museum in the small town of ‘hoorn’

a series of roughly 50 of our posters are featured in the show and were also used to create the paper tutu shown above…

talented photographer maarten kools sent me an update link to his portfolio, enjoy…

i seem to have mainly selected fairly ‘unusual stuff’ here, but the rather ‘traditional’ portrait of writer ‘umberto eco’ above is actually one of my favourites
